The neighborhood of Van Nuys in Los Angeles County is known for having a relatively high crime rate, however in the past week property crimes have skyrocketed which is cause for concern. In particular, theft crimes have gone through the roof.

According to statistics from the Los Angeles Times, “In the seven days between Aug. 16 and Aug. 22, violent crime reports were about average and property crime reports jumped significantly.” And over the last three months, “Van Nuys averaged 11.0 violent crimes and 42.6 property crimes per week.”

Most of the crimes committed in Van Nuys range from burglary to grand theft auto to other types of theft crimes, and this week’s rate of 5.6 crimes per 10,000 people is higher than in nearby Northridge, Lake Balboa, Sherman Oaks, Panorama City, Sun Valley, Valley Glen and North Hills.
