The neighborhood of Van Nuys in Los Angeles County could be considered a crime hotspot with a variety of assaults, DUIs, thefts, and other crimes committed on a regular basis, however the recent murder of two people outside of a 7-Eleven has taken the community by storm.

What was originally reported as an assault with a deadly weapon in the 8200 block of N. Sepulveda Boulevard turned to tragedy when police arrived to find two victims dead from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Police said the victims were black males in their 20s and the assailants are Latino.

According to the Los Angeles Times, “Witnesses reported seeing two men flee the scene westbound on Roscoe Boulevard toward the 405 Freeway.”

These murders mark the third and fourth homicides in Van Nuys in 2014.
